Applied Stacks
Applied Stacks is a public database of the software and hardware used to build websites. Given a website, you can find out what software and hardware components it uses. Alternatively, given a component, you can look up websites that use it.
Applied Stacks exists for two reasons:
First, it's here to help people make better, more informed, choices about the languages, libraries, frameworks, toolkits and other components they use by documenting what has been successfully used by others.
Second, since one of the most convincing (and least annoying) ways of arguing the worth of a tool is to build something useful with it, this site also provides a medium for non-obnoxious advocacy.
The Applied Stacks database is community built and maintained with its contents being placed in the public domain. The whole database can be downloaded as a YAML file.

I just wanted to let everybody know that Applied Stacks just launched so there's only a few big sites in the database so far (e.g., Google, YouTube, Wikipedia). But, I'm currently in the process of organizing a preliminary data gathering effort for the site.
If you have your own site, please, feel free to help out by entering it into the database.
Or, if you're feeling more ambitious and want to help other web developers in being more informed about what components are behind what sites, please contact me directly about getting involved (email: Daniel.Cer@gmail.com).
